The Initiative

THE INITIATIVE :

What we envision.

"The goal of this program is to engage, activate and immerse 15 emerging Latino leaders by providing a personal and professional leadership development experience that is is both culturally-unique and relevant to their Hispanic Baptist culture and calling.”

The Hispanic Baptist Convention of Texas will create an opportunity for young Latino Baptist leaders that, over the course of one year, will provide:

  • LEADERSHIP CONNECTION: Will bring together young Latino and Latina leaders in a year-long cohort experience that includes a Leadership Launch Retreat, monthly interactive opportunities, and a Leadership Recovery Retreat. Participants will develop a personal leadership plan and a project that engages a leadership issue in their organization.

  • LEADERSHIP CONTEXTUALIZED CERTIFICATION: Will train and certify the leaders through an in-culture talent development program in collaboration with the Center for Hispanic Leadership. Women leaders will receive additional training through HUELLAS, a new program specifically tailored for Hispanic Baptist women.

  • LEADERSHIP IMMERSION: Will provide a leadership immersion experience that exposes the young leaders to various organizations/leaders related to Hispanic ministry.

THE EXPERIENCE:

What you get.

This life changing experience includes:

  • LEADERSHIP LAUNCH
    JANUARY 26-29, 2017 / SAN ANTONIO

The Leadership Connection begins with an intensive multi-day Leadership Launch Retreat. At this retreat the participants will develop a personal leadership plan and a project that engages a leadership issue in their organization.

  • LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATION
    MONTHLY

You will be trained and certified by the Hispanic Leadership Academy in collaboration with the Center for Hispanic Leadership. CHL Academy Certification is an in-culture talent development program designed for the ongoing advancement of Hispanic professionals. Addressing the Hispanic leader’s challenge of “assimilation and authenticity,” the program teaches participants to leverage their innate skills along with their cultural values. This online training along with monthly conference calls will propel and sustain your leadership development arch throughout the year.

  • LEADERSHIP IMMERSION
April or May, 2017 / WASHINGTON DC

Participants will have a leadership immersion experience that exposes the young leaders to various organizations and leaders related to Hispanic ministry. Some of the organizations intended to be a part of this effort include: Baptist Joint Committee on Religious Liberty, Washington DC, Faith & Education Coalition, National Hispanic Leadership Conference, Texas Baptists’ Christian Life Commission, Austin (ethics, lobbying, etc.).

  • LEADERSHIP RECOVERY
    DEC. 2-6, 2017 / RIDGECREST, NC

giving the cohort an opportunity for rest and interaction at the LifeWay Christian Conference Center in Ridgecrest, NC. The Leadership Recovery Retreat will be produced in cooperation with Lifeway Español.
